Pancham: The Immortal Note - A Tribute to R.D. Burman

May 29 at 7:30 p.m.

John H. Williams Theatre, Tulsa PAC

Rahul Dev Burman, commonly known as R.D. Burman and nicknamed “Pancham,” was an Indian film score composer. Considered one of the seminal music directors of the Hindi film industry, Burman was the only son of singer and Bollywood music composer Sachin Dev Burman and his wife, Meera.

From the 1960s to the 1990s, Pancham composed musical scores for 331 movies and provided vocals for a few of his compositions. He influenced the next generation of Indian music directors, and his songs continue to be popular in India even after his death in 1994.

"Pancham: The Immortal Note" traces Burman’s life and works through his music and also through audio-visual snippets from his contemporaries, such as Gulzar saab, Javed Akhtar, Shammi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and modern greats like Shantanu Moitra, Shankar Mahadevan and Vishal Bharadwaj, to name a few.
